No Rockets globasyst globe assist

Everybody alive today has spent over half their life living in the age of ROCKETS.

When we were young it felt like if there was any chance we could get into space it would be on the back of an enormous tube filled with explosive liquid.

What a blast (TIC).

The reality is, unfortunately, that using rockets to mass transport in the volumes we are talking about here will not assist the globe at all.

The next bit is kind of mind-blowing so prepare yourself.

The amount of fuel required to launch something like the space shuttle into space is phenomenal. The shuttle’s external tank holds 143,000 gallons of liquid oxygen and 383,000 gallons of liquid hydrogen. The fuel weighs almost 20 times more than the Shuttle and its payload. At launch, the Shuttle, external tank, solid rocket boosters and all the fuel combined have a total weight of 2 million kilograms (4.4 million pounds) or almost 2000 tones.

That’s a lot of explosives and a hell of a lot of resources to get a couple of people and couple of hundred kilos of stuff into space.

To put that into a perspective you can relate to, if you filled your car with 60 liters of fuel once a week, with the amount of fuel used by the shuttle you would be able to drive non stop for the next 681 years. Yep, that’s right, you wouldn’t have to top up again until the year 2700.

To put it another way, if you actually started from orbit with this amount of fuel on board you could be anywhere in the solar system AND BACK within a week.

This is a really important point because with the creation of a way to get this sort of fuel and energy into orbit we open up access to more than a 5,000 times the resources currently available to us on Earth. In simple terms, an ounce of gold, currently worth around $1300US will now be worth a dollar. For the price you can buy one liter of petrol, you will be able to buy more than a thousand liters.

But we’re getting ahead of ourselves. The primary reason why rockets are not a viable option is simply the level of toxic emissions they create. Everything we’ve described gets less than 10 people and some temporary equipment into space. We need an option that can move 4-6 BILLION people AND create homes for them in space permanently and that only starts with the Space Elevator.

The space elevator will allow us to achieve orbit with no emissions at all.

The work that people like Richard Branson and Elon Musk are doing at the moment IS important and will certainly help us to achieve our goals but as a long term solution to the Global Crisis we face, it really is just a plaything for the idle rich.

Once the space bridge is in place, the R&D these organisations are currently carrying out will almost certainly be able to be extended from atmosphere capable craft into interplanetary craft. This is something we are excited to see come to fruition.
